2001 Exursion Heads
2001 V10 6.8 2V 4WD Excursion is my daily driver. I have 4 Grandchildren, 2 Daughters, their husbands, and our dogssssss. We all ride together occasionally on short road trips. I enjoy my truck, even more when it is running right. As of late I have come to the conclusion that the heads need to be done. Have blown 5 plugs in the past, previous owner JB welded 2 spark plugs #3 and the one in front of it (not looking at the diagram right now.) Used Heli coil to repair all except #3 & #9 keep crapping out and to be honest I would love a proper fix. Hence decided to get the heads done. Does anyone here have experience with this and or recommend a shop to order quality heads from? I have narrowed down 2 mechanics for the job that come highly recommended. Oh, yeah willing to ship down south to Miami, FL.

Once they have blown out, the proper fix is to ream out to a larger diameter, tap, and then use a plug insert. The reamer will remove your helicoils. This is much cheaper than new heads and works fantastic. Cal-van is the best value manufacturer of these kits (link). Time Sert also sells them. Many retailers sell them for less than direct from the manufactures, so shop around. Also recommend new plugs, replace any broken COPS, and new COP boots at the same time. If you decide to go this route, let me know. I have several tips and advice based on my experience.
Worst case, if you have a spark plug hole that has already been completely trashed by the previous owner, then there is always the 'oversize' kit available from Time Sert (link).
