trailer plug help

Hey guys, I have a 08 f150, and i cannot figure out why i have no 12 volts at my 7 pin trailer plug, also, im only getting 9 volts when i press the brake pedal to the trailer brakes, is that the normal voltage?
everything elso works on the plug blinkers, brake lights running lights etc.
just cant figure out the no 12 volt and low voltage on the brakes. im headed out this month on a 10 hour camping trip and would like to get it fixed, ive checked every fuse, and relay have no blown fuses or anything it has me stumped. thanks in advance
i thought it was a bad brake controller, placed a new one and still the same 9 volts to the trailer brakes.

Is the 9 volts at the same wire you were maybe expecting 12 volts? Trailer brake controller varies the voltage to the trailer brakes to modulate the trailer brakes just like you modulate truck brakes by how hard you mash the brake pedal. It may be that the system is limited at 9 volts so as to not lock the trailer brakes.

Trailer brake controllers have a gain setting. Yours may be set to the minimum. Is your TBC an OEM or aftermarket? The gain setting on aftermarket modules is on the module. The gain setting for OEM may be a menu selection in the instrument cluster.

I don’t recall OEM controllers before ‘09, so OP is making all his adjustments himself.

As for composer to the 12V pin, there are two relays in the fuse box for that and reverse lights for a trailer that aren’t always installed. It’s R05 in your case.

The older OEM brake controllers have the gain setting prominently on the front so it's probably not this controller or the its gain setting.

Here's the OEM TBC wiring.

You will have to figure out any aftermarket modules wiring but it should be very similar to OEM. There will be a fused power for the controller (F105, 30 amp in OEM) and it feeds the trailer brakes when the brake pedal is pressed by responding to the trailer brake light signal.

Is your trailer hooked up, and your back probing to see if 12v is there, volts will be low, because trailer isnt moving...
