power windows explorers 91-94
I scanned the forum and couldn't find any other topic like mine and I can't beleive that only three Explorers have this problem please help. I have a 92 Explorer I bought it three+ years ago I love it but I have one nagging problem Power windows!! When I bought it all thewindows worked well. Then the front windows Driver and pass would go down but not up. I could hear the motor running . So I pulled the panels off and with help of the motor and my hand got the windows up. I took it to my mech he had a fix from napa that back then cost 40.00 per window to repair not bad. But now my rear windows are doing the exact same thing and a few guys at work who own 94 and 93 Explorers have the same problem but with the front windows . My mech is now out of business so I went to another mech he wants 120.00 per window to fix. Does anybody have a cheaper fix out there or is there a way to repair the current windows. I know the fix is a plastic gear that is replaced because it is worn or broken.

Hi All,
The site referenced above is unfortunately not in existance anymore. However, we are all lucky that someone has mirrored the site and is now in another location. "Sid Daley" was kind enough to post the link for us all. Here it is:

Bookmark this site!!! It's a great supplement to this forum...and pretty much all of the content applies to your vehicle if you have a 91-94. The content includes info on windows.
Hope this helps

if you remove the round black cover from the back of the regulator motor assy. You will notice how it operates. There is a triangular shaped cam in the center and it normally has another similarly shaped plastic cam that should surround it. When this plastic breaks, it allows the center cam to rotate freely, thus not turning the outer assy which is why the window doesn't move. (I am stating this from memory, I hope that this is close enough representation to help you) I cleaned out the bits and pieces of plastic, then centered the inner gear, then filled gaps with epoxy, allowed to cure. Made sure pieces rotated as intended, put cover back on, reassembled and window is about as good as new. I wish I would have taken pics. My front passenger window will need the same thing done pretty soon, maybe then I can get a few pics taken. O'reilly's wanted $67 for a new regulator motor. You decide how you want to fix...Either way, the hardest part is removing the regulator and slide hardware from the door. After that it's a pretty easy fix if your cable is not broken...
