Did not want to hijack a current battery thread so here goes. 2018 6.7. Been having a few things going on that I am thinking the batteries might be going. Such as slow Bluetooth initiating to my phone. Clock reverted to 24hr format, went back to 12hr this morning on it's own. i always keep my dash on tire pressure and it's been going to fuel economy on start up, this morning it was at the tire pressure screen. Truck has no issue turning over and starting. Starts up as normal. Lead Acid Batteries here in South Florida get you 3yrs.
So my question is about the 850CCA. Batteries required are TYPE 65, 850CCA. The AGM's I find are 750CCA. I live in South Florida so I am not turning the truck over in 0 degrees in the winter here. Are the 750CCA an issue to even be bothered with?
Choices right now. Advanced Auto Die Hard Platinum AGM 4yr replacement 750CCA $260.00, or Die Hard Gold Maintenance Free 3yr replacement 850CCA $220.00. Wallmart EverStart 3yr replacement 850CCA $140.00. Leaning towards the EverStart just because of the savings but curious on the 750CCA AGM. More expensive but gets another year on warranty.
Also on the AGM will forscan be needed to change the parameters. Thanks in advance.
All the AGM's I see are 750CCA. Not sure why that is. I doubt it would be a problem for you in Florida. I just replaced my batteries on Sat. and went with the Everstart MAXX for 140 each. I almost went with the AGM but decided it wasn't worth the 80 total to replace both batteries just for 1 extra year of warranty. As far as Forscan for the AGM batteries, I know there's a setting in there to change the battery type, but I have yet to see any proof that it actually has any tangible benefit other than making the owner feel better about it.
I have the walmart batteries, mostly just for the convenience of having a walmart almost anywhere I go, so if one or both fail I can roll into the next nearest store for a replacement.
And, I have needed to replace my walmart batteries once already, less than two years old when they both crapped out.
Walmart replaced them readily once they tested them and found them bad.
But, I had to point out to the walmart "tech" that he needed to disconnect one battery before testing or he would get a false test result because he first hooked his test machine up without doing that.
Of course AGM batteries can be found that have CCA more than 750. Mine are 930CCA but they may be a bit cost prohibitive to some depending on what your budget might be. Mine came with a five year warranty but I see now the warranty is four years.
Ouch, granted it was back in early 2023 but I got my 850CCA lead acids for like $140 a pop. No issues yet, I know some people love AGMs but for my uses of living in New England pushing snow, pulling a fifth wheel and covering 20-25k miles per year the need just isn't there.
IMHO a 750 CCA battery is more than enough in Florida, rarely will it get cold enough for you to really need more than that and the AGMs should handle the heat better.
I am going to charge them and take one in at a time to load test. Getting back spasms just thinking about it.
You really don't need to go to that trouble, just make sure the person doing the testing disconnects one before testing.
A bunch of guys on here, lead by me, bought our own battery testers just a couple of weeks back when I came across a great sale on them on amazon.
And, they are back on sale now>
If you want to save money get the 850cca sealed batteries from Walmart with the longest warranty.
I jumped for the Odyssey Extreme as I will run those till they are about 4-5 years old and sell the truck with them in place. Don’t have time to mess with that stuff. I spent $200-300 more.
I sanded and painted my battery hold downs too and was careful with the insulation.
I remember 16 years ago the Sears equivalent (Diehard Extreme?), same exact battery different label, were around $400 installed for 2. And they were a tad cheaper than the Odyssey label, maybe the warranty situation was better too.
So inflation hasn’t been too too terrible but a few hundred here and there is definitely lining someone’s pockets and not your retirement accounts.
Yeah, the OE batteries are 750's and I believe the less expensive walmart batteries are 750's too, two year free warranty instead of the MAX's 3 year.
But, I like how crisply the higher amp batteries act during starting.
