today there are float, agm, lithium , EFB , and a few variants.
After 6 years on my 2019 and on battery set number 3, I am doing an experiment…
i researched which battery technology had superior heat tolerance and surprisingly…it was efb batteries.
aside from other technology improvements like plate design and a system that allows the bottom 1” of acid to recirculate preventing deposit accumulation the superior heat tolerance was a high priority item.
i already had EFB’s in my two other cars and think I have 5 or 6 years on them and they both recently tested new .
so 2 group 65 EFB’s went in my truck last year and we’ll see how long they last.
the prior 2 sets were oem original motorcraft and then after that 850cca versions of motorcraft group 65 batteries.
Batteries in vehicle currently are 850CCA. When I Googled yesterday that is what came up Type 65 CCA 850 150 Minute Reserve. This is exactly what the EverStart is for $140.00. Thanks for the suggestion on the battery tester. It arrives to the house today between 5PM-10PM. Going to grab the manual out of the truck and check but would rather go with the 850 like Ltngdrvr said. Will let you all know what the manual says shortly.
In case anyone besides myself was wondering about an EFB.
“EFB” stands for an “Enhanced Flooded Battery”. When compared to a traditional lead acid battery, an EFB provides improved charge acceptance as well as greater cyclic durability. Because of this, an EFB will typically last up to 6 years as opposed to 3-5 years for a traditional lead acid battery.
Which is better AGM or EFB? While both EFBs and AGMs are considered advanced batteries, there are differences in which is best for certain applications. EFBs are ideal for small- to mid-range vehicles with start-stop technology, while AGMs are best for high-powered vehicles like electric cars and trucks.
Something I haven't seen mentioned is FLA batteries emit corrosive gasses, which makes it important to clean and maintain the battery terminals, the hold-down brackets, etc. AGM batteries emit nothing, so there is no corrosion and cleaning is not required. I'll never go back to FLA.
Terminals are clean, hold-downs do have some corrosion. So I received my Ancel Battery Tester late yesterday while watching The Panthers lose. After the game I disconeected each battery, both terminals and took some readings.
Driver Battery:
Health 15%
Charge 91%
332CCA
12.58V
Suggest: Replace
Passenger Battery
Health 5%
Charge 0%
199CCA
11.20V
Suggest: Charge and Retest
This weekend I will put them to charge and retest. Thanks for the suggestion on the Ancel BA101. For the price of $22.92 it is a great tool.
This morning truck started like a champ as normal.

Well, you definitely have one bad battery, but on these trucks it is advised to always change batteries in pairs as one weak battery will pull down the other, so I would definitely get two new batteries.
Do as you wish, but I think it would be a waste of your time and energy to fool with charging them and retesting.
I will go with the Wallmart Everstart 850CCA. Got my first grandchild on the way so shaving corners as much as I can. And yes I would never just change one battery. It's like changing one front shock that collapsed at 80K miles and not the other. I was putting them on a charger just to see the readings of the tester. I know the battery/batteries is/are toast. Thanks again folks and if I do charge and test I will post for chit and giggles.
