Exhaust brake

Has it been discovered yet how to disable the re-arming of the exhaust brake after every start up ? I would like to be able to select it and it would stay on start after start until I decided to unselect it and shut it off. Search doesn't help.

I drive my '22 F550 every day, and as annoying as it is, I just made the habit of starting it, turning on EB and selecting deep sand/snow mode, the rare occasions I forget, I remember as soon as I take off. My ram 3500 was the same way, gotta turn it on every, single, time! lol

I doubt Ford will ever make it easy to have the exhaust brake default to ‘on’ as long they consider its use to be hazardous in some conditions. Tow/Haul defaults ‘off’ for the same reason.

Oh no, they’re not trying to protect any ignorant drivers. They’re protecting Ford from the inevitable lawsuit if said ignorant driver wrecked and hurt someone because the vehicle defaulted to a perceived unsafe driving configuration. If the driver selects the exhaust brake or tow/haul then Ford is off the hook.

If the owner modifies the truck to make these features come on by default then Ford would have to prove they did everything reasonable to keep this from happening. That’s why emissions deletes keep getting more difficult and expensive as well. The automakers have to prove they’re making an effort to keep them intact.

That’s my opinion anyway.

Your opinion is fact.

Businesses are in business to make money. If they are getting sued because someone got hurt using their product, that goes against their bottom line. They LITERALLY employ teams of lawyers and engineers to go over EVERY POSSIBLE WAY someone could get hurt using their product, and either physically remove the possibility of harm or issue warnings not to do something. Everything they can do to get themselves off the hook for liability, they will do.

We do the same thing at my work (we are foundry machine builders). We do FMEA on EVERYTHING we do to try to mitigate any potential harm - because we can be sued if we don't. We are a small shop, and one major lawsuit could potentially take us out. We would rather that not happen, so we do everything we can to avoid it. It is cheaper in the long run.

It's really NOT about protecting people who do dumb stuff. It's because companies got sued by someone that did something stupid and lost, and don't want to lose again.

Oh, I agree, Ford is protecting Ford, which all stems from lawsuits from ignorant folks who didn't want to take personal responsibility for their stupid actions... think hot coffee at a drive thru, the beginning, or close to it.

Used to be the owners manual was all about the vehicle and it's functions, specifications, maint schedule, and even instructions for maint... now, the first 50 pages are all disclaimers, warnings and legalese, the remaining 15 pages are about the vehicle 🤦‍♂️ yes, I'm being somewhat facetious but not really. lol
