Hey guys!
I'm having problems finding hardware for my tailgate! See photo! Can anyone tell me where I can get these nuts or am I on my own as usual? I believe I can fix this with a Mig Welder and some new nuts, but finding new nuts is the issue! I don't want to spend $600 on a new tailgate right now! I have to buy new tires and suitable wheels, that's going to set me back about $4K!!!! So, a cheap fix for this is needed badly!
Thanks for any help you can give!
Obviousily you need to find some square / 4 sided nuts. Try the common hdwr section at Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hdwr or about any Farm and Ranch (TSC) store.
Yes nome made rod retainier.
If you have a welder, then you are good with metal. Make some nuts if you can't find them at the usual suspect locations above, drill and tap holes a few inches apart in a strip of 1/4" steel, then cut your nuts to fit snug in the holes, weld them then. I might would add a piece of plate over the nuts, clearance is there I think.
I once took mine out of my old tailgate, nuts broke loose inside the tail gate and just spun as I tried backing the bolts out. I drilled holes from the inner side of tailgate to reach them, stick welded through the hole, then the nuts let go. A few months later, swapped new TG in place after paint.
