If you believe this statement, you haven't ordered enough from LMC.
No kidding. Their stuff, unless DC-sourced, is iffy at best. THIN metal panels that come pre-dented, warped, or dinged just to save you the trouble! And don’t get me started on their tailgates…
I have no problem with LMC parts. But, as the other stated, Their patch panels are good, as is their plastic parts. Replacement panel are expected to have a ding or two in them, that's par for the course. The only thing that I was disappointed with was their no name tailgate, but when I bought it it was inexpensive. And anyways, once I found an oem replacement, I sold the LMC one for the same price I paid for it. Most of the time I am happy to have LMC as a resource; but you have to pick and choose.
I've not been dissapointed by LMC, but I've never ordered big body parts from them. Most of my body parts I bought in the '90s through a local body shop account at a Ford dealer. I have a good source (Auto Krafters) that is close enough that an afternoon's drive gets me there and back, with a really yummy dinner strop at either Wright's Dairy Rite or Mrs. Rowe's ... plus I get to actually touch the item before hauling it home. I look it up, call to check stock, they put it out with my name, nice lady at counter has it there for me. I know is rare that stuff is like OEM like old OEM was. Buying stuff for a '77 (in my case) ... is like buying stuff for a 1927 would have been in 1975.
I have been buying from LMC for over 10 years and have never had an issue! Some people don't realize that LMC is an Affiliate for those products, just like Jegs and Summit Racing. I'm not sure who makes the cheaper tailgate, but "Dennis Carpenter" makes the "Original Tailgate" from Ford stampings, so it's as original as possible, but better because of the coating they put on it that Ford didn't! Everyone offering this tailgate is all the same, and they come from there. The prices are also within $5 to $10 of each other. So, complaining about the prices and shipping costs is stupid! I get it, people want to save money, but to what lengths? Remember, if you have to drive an hour to a junkyard, spend several hours looking for and pulling parts, what have you saved? You spent time, money, fuel, and labor! When you could have gone down to the local parts shop and got the item "new", or ordered it "new" online, problem solved, without all the bull****! Yes. I know that's not going to happen in all cases. For example, I found out that from about '78 to 90 something, tow hooks were available! I WANT A PAIR, but that will be a junkyard item only!
I wasn't going to answer you because your flip response is less than desired, but I'm going to put you straight! There is nothing wrong with the quality of parts from LMC! You will pay for shipping on online-ordered parts, no matter who you get them from! Going to a junkyard for 45-year-old plastic is a NO GO! If you do, I'm sorry that you waste your money on those endeavors! The junkyard is only suitable for certain parts, like an OEM Tow Hook, but not electronics, gauges, or plastic! You go ahead and waste your money at "Pull-N-Save", not this guy!
Hey Dynamite Guy (flip response)
I always try to buy OEM stuff if at all possible. Plastic, steel, steering wheels, and what I can have rebuilt I would do that.
This new stuff just does not last like the OEM. Quality in the past was good.
OK that trim that 77&79 F250 mentioned, has been around for nearly 50 years and still looks good.
Now in 50 years, wonder what your new plastic will look like.
In my opinion, 77&79 F250 only sells good stuff, NOT cracked or distorted, I am with him on this one..
BTY,, nice looking interior on your truck. Did you do all the work yourself? if so you have talent.. Clean, nice detail..
It was in this box with the original sealed strap that was tight. Bought in the early mid '90s, first eyes on it in '22 the day I took it to my painter. It was in my basement standing up against a wall.
Initially, I just was buying doors or bed sides (several year old paint / etc then, I knew come next time I would want doors and bed sides) for my '77, parts man asked if I needed a TG. I first said "no" because mine was fine then but then I asked "why?" and he said they were cleaning the parts room and found one hidden behind new stuff in a corner, didn't even have a price for it in any current books, but said I could have it for $125.
I wasn't going to answer you because your flip response is less than desired
Well just in case this above response was flipped my way. I live close enough to LMC to drive there (2 hrs one way) and have in the past used them for parts. I just do not like there parts, enough said. If you like their parts and are ok with their shipping cost, then I am happy for you. I offered you that part since I thought it was what you were looking for (OEM and with the studs already gone).
The old heard....Sunday go to church truck, mud truck, work truck and farm chore truck. Yes not perfect, but ok for me.
Most of the time when I need parts for my projects I just walk outside my shop and get what I need for myself and for a few other folks on FTE a time or 2. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum238/
One of the heard with a little elbow grease applied. Yea I guess it is NOT my old red mud truck anymore. Are you looking for F500 front tow hooks? I have not seen them offered in the 78/79 dealership brochure for "Ford truck accessiories".
Ford did offer optional "Dealer Installed" Tow Hooks on their heavy-duty trucks, including the F-250 and larger models (F-350, Super Duty, etc.), from the late 1970s through the 1990s. These Tow Hooks were typically part of an optional "heavy-duty" or "off-road" package. They came in J-hook and D-ring styles, depending on the year. They were especially popular among buyers who used their trucks for towing, recovery, or off-road work. Considering I'm restoring this truck and intending to make it a HD Overlanding vehicle, I will need these. I can buy aftermarket all day long, but if a NOS part or viable junkyard pieces are available, that would be great!
I know that on the 78/79 Bronco an option of tow hooks came with the "Protection" package. Are you saying that the same set/design from 1970's is the same into the 90's ? So in my parts search if I do not have it, I only look at the 73-79's in my local JY. There are about eighty plus 73-79's and you can bet I have inspected and or picked the best quality part from every one. And I have never seen any J or D ring style tow hooks on any of them.
Protection: Tow hooks (front)
Locking hood release
Exterior protection group. Consists of door edge guards, front bumper guards and front bumper rubber strip.
Security lock group. Consisted of locking gas cap, locking hood release, spare tire lock and locking glove box.
But I know that there is 2 different D ring style that flat mounts on the bottom of the frame of 98/99 Expeditions. Example one, but with possibly modified mount brackets.
Example 2 thanks to FTE user Cwegga.
Probably not what you are looking for. Or is it?
Dynamite Guy
FWIW I have delt with many JY's in my lifetime and 77&79F250 is NOT a JY or JY guy.
I have purchased from him and he supplies a nice, clean used product.
He also knows his parts and if the piece he has is broken, or un usable he will not send it to you.
He will also answer questions that guys have.
In my opinion, he is a used parts recycler, keeping these old trucks as original as the person want to make it.
Alex
Alex, thanks for the kind words and support. But I am a USED (but very reusuable) JY parts kind of guy. Lol I really like the term Used Parts Recycler, for sure. Dyna guy says "but if a NOS part or viable junkyard pieces are available, that would be great". So I am...as always on the hunt for that part he is looking for.
I do NOT own a JY or solely sale parts just from a JY. I get as much as possible from MY personal collection of parts trucks. And if I get a JY part for some one, it has to match the level/quality of reusuability on MY personal trucks 1st. And yes some 40+ year old parts to need a litlte clean up/shine work.
I am pretty sure I even have some of those Expedition front tow hooks in my parts shed.
Those later model loop tow hooks on the orange truck are my pictures. They were from 08+ f150 I believe. Did not have to drill holes, factory holes on that 2wd truck were perfect. They are handy to keep straps from coming off.
