Coolant Temperature Sensor
When I bought this truck last fall I did a few things to it. Complete tune up, removed smog pump and removed the Cat with big tube muffler and pipe. Ran good but seemed to idle higher than it should. After reading on this site I figured the CTS was bad. Before I installed the new sensor I averaged a little over 11 MPG running empty at between 65-70 which I figured was pretty good for what it was (7.5L, auto with 4.10 gears). As I was leaving on a 1000 mile trip I figured I'd go ahead install the new sensor....wow, should have done it sooner...much smoother at idle and average 13.5 MPG over the trip...again running between 65-70. Just thought this might help someone who might be having the same issues I had.
