Help Decoding 1972 F100 VIN
I have a 1972 F100 that was inherited to me by my dad. The truck was bought by my dad in Mexico City back in ‘74. I have a copy of the original invoice. I had no issues registering it here in California but now I’m trying to decode the VIN for more information about the original equipment on the truck. I haven’t found any information regarding this VIN. Anyway, the VIN is stamped on one of the door frames and on the chasis. VIN is AF1JMD48177. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
I gave you your own thread for this truck, and moved you to the correct forum for your model year.
AF1JMD48177 is an 11 digit VIN, which was the normal number of characters for that year. But, it does not match up to the format used on US built trucks.
I have never been able to find access to any information regarding trucks built in Mexico.
Is there a tag on the driver door below the latch like this one:

Y-blocks hung around in South America for a long time. Not sure about Mexico. There was a Mexican built truck here that had a 289 as the OEM engine.
Can you post a clear picture of the invoice too?
The front end has been changed out. I know that much. I want to change it back to the round headlights.
by three generations. My grandpa used it in the 70’s then my dad who passed it on to my brother and eventually me. The farm was sold in the late 90’s and the truck has been sitting until I recently imported it. I’m mostly curious to see what the truck “looked like” when it came out of the dealership. I’d like to restore it to as original as possible shape. The current engine in there is a 302 I believe but I have to clean it up to find any sort of markings on it. I don’t know how to identify it just by looking at it. I’m not that familiar with engines.
