Coolant leak tips, please

2005 F350, 217k

I noticed a coolant puddle at the front of the truck of sufficient size to warrant an investigation.

No obvious source with the engine running, the fan was pushing it everywhere. So, I removed the fan, fan shroud, and diverter, and then cleaned to front of the engine as well as everything forward of that point.

Refilled system and started the truck.

I have coolant running down the housing on the passenger rear of the cold side tube where it bolts to the intake - from there it drips down to the heater hose tube where it bolts to the front cover, and then onto the belt, which slings it over to the passenger frame rail.

While running, I can see an occasional puff of mist that appears to originate below the cold side tube from the general area of the fuel filter housing.

I have a bore scope, but without a specific area to investigate, I haven't found anything.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you own a pressure tester for the coolant system?

I'm confused - I was unaware that there was any coolant flow in the intake?

I am now better educated...I'm guessing that those orange/pink drops on the right shouldn't be there?

Pass through from the EGR cooler flow to the front cover.

You may be able to rent one from your local auto parts place. You will need the adapter that fits on your degas bottle.

Unless it is leaking as it sits and you can see it, it may be difficult to find a coolant leak.

Harbor Freight has a couple decent ones as cheap as most everything else they sell. The good thing is a Harbor Freight seems to pop up on every corner these days.

The icon line seems to be really good. I’m still not much on their power and cordless tools.

Update: Planning to dive in as soon as I get time off from work and decent weather. May as well do the EGR cooler that my wife got me for Christmas 12 years ago....

Some aftermarket websites show the donut as W301767, but Parts.Ford.com says that's not the correct part - but won't tell me what is. Anyone know for certain?

The intake donut ring is included in the "late 04 and up" EGR Cooler Gasket kit (3C3Z-9433-BJ):

This kit contains the blue EGR cooler hose, EGR cooler inlet and outlet gaskets, turbo bolts, turbo oil feed tube gasket and o-ring, turbo oil drain tube o-rings, intake donut o-ring, ICP sensor valve cover seal

Note that this kit does NOT include the intake gaskets. Ford probably quit supplying them in the kit as they are not needed typically.

The part number you posted for the individual donut o-ring is the correct number (W301767). Note that the site states this message: " This item requires special ordering from the Manufacturer. The average lead time for special orders is 3-7 business days."

https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts...aneous-w301767

Intake gasket part number of you want to replace them is: 3C3Z-9439-AA (for one).

Update #2: Re-watched Diesel Tech Ron's hour & 40 minute video on this whole process and decided that it made sense to replace the oil cooler "while I'm in there."

Found the STC replacement kit buried with new intake gaskets in the EGR cooler box, so...

After 20 years and 217k you could argue that if something was going to fail, it would have done so by now. But I already have the parts, so....

Thoughts & opinions appreciated.

As a general rule, things are more prone to breaking (ie not working) as age and wear increases. When it comes down to enjoying the ride, or enjoying working on the ride, there isn't any question for me anymore.
