I found this truck in a local junkyard and I'm trying to ID the transmission. It's in a 1973 F600 with a 330HD engine, 2 speed rear end, 5 speed OD with PTO, and 4wd. I foolishly neglected to take a picture of the door tag so I have no idea what transmission is in this thing. From what I can tell it was some kind of plow or dump truck. The Reg and inspection say 2007 and 2008 respectively. It's been off the road a very long time but I want the transmission for my 79 F350 if it will bolt to the 400 in it. That being said, I won't know if it will bolt to my engine unless I can figure out what it is. I'm in a bit of a bind because I can't go back there for a while because of some back problems I'm dealing with. Once my back is sorted I wanted to go back for the transmission if possible. Does anyone recognize the transmission from the shift pattern it has? It's like an IH T34 shift pattern.
In case the images don't load nicely, the shift pattern is as follows
1 2 OD
R 3 4

That pattern looks like a Spicer. Note this references Chevy C60s but everyone used these transmissions. There may be some differences in a Ford vs. Chev but pattern and shift ***** are probably not different.
For MY '73 the only Spicer five speed OD listed is 6453-A, transmission code "K".
For your '79 F350 what do you have as a transmission now?
Take a look at this thread regarding using a medium truck trans in your truck. The trucks in question have a transmission coming from an FT engine as yours would. They went on an FE. You are going over to a 335 series--different bell pattern, different starter/flywheel/clutch etc.
Anyway, this has lots of info and in post 7 there is yet another link to another transmission swap thread with still more info.
OD transmissions are few and far between in the mediums. So even if you decide this isn't for you, consider grabbing that one and horse trading it for something you can use or spend.....
Finally got a photo of the data plate. Transmission code appears to read either A or 4. I am pretty sure it's a 4. Axle code looks like 621. Definitely an F600.
Excellent info. The VIN/warranty plate decoders I found were all for light duty trucks so this was really the best bet I had. I agree that it's a 4 and as I suspected it's a Clark. Now I need to figure out what I would need to bolt it to my 400.
Your issues will be bell depth, clutch clearance, clutch mix and match, and input length and diameter, and maybe the bearing retainer diameter. Some or all.
IMO it's worth getting it and seeing if it will work. They are rare enough that you can resell it if need be.
Yeah, I know that the guy who owns the junkyard is usually reasonable on prices so I likely wouldn't be paying more than $250 for it. The hard part is actually removing it. I talked to a guy on FB who swapped a Clark behind the 400 in his Bronco. He had the input shaft machined to fit the stock clutch assembly and he said the bellhousing was a close match with only the bottom two holes needing to be modified. According to him, all this was done in the 90s and it's held up well for over 30 years. If I decide that the amount of work isn't worth it, I could definitely make back what I spend on the gearbox
