I have a chance to buy a whole 94 lightning truck with 70 thousand mile on it. The truck is wrecked. i'd like to swap the engine and drive train into my 90 ext.cab f150. I have the time and know how to do the swap but was just wondering about compatability. Wiring harnasses are totally dif. What about tranny yokes and spline counts. I'd like to swap rears?
Do I have to swap out total dash harnesses? Thanks!
Everything is pretty much a direct swap. The transmission will swap right over as well as the rearend. You MAY have to rework the rear driveshaft which is not that big of a deal. Depending on from which truck you take the driveshaft from you may need to get it lengthened or shortened. The guages will swap right over also.
For the Engine:
1)If your truck has the 4.9L you will need to swap the lightning engine mounts over as well as the computer and radiator (if the one on the lightning is trashed you will need to get a new one for a 5.8L)
2)If your truck has a 302, you will just need to swap over the computer and get the larger radiator for a 5.8.
3)If your truck has a 5.8L then all you will need to swap over is the computer.
Here is what I have.
90 ect. cab with a 302 efi. The 90 has a bunch of individual plugs for the engine harnass that connect at the drivers fender. Where as the 94 has one BIG plug. Do I have to take the whole wiring harnass from inside the cab of the 94 and retro-fit it into the 90?
I was also wandering if my driveshaft will work with the lightning tranny and rear differential yoke? Stacey
