5.4l questions

Im new to lightings and know almost nothing about what options they came with when.

I have a 97 f150 and am considering swapping soe or all of the motor for a lightning motor. did they ever make a N/A lightning that had a 5.4l? Id like to use the intake off of one if they did. Also does anyone know what the difference between a stock 5.4l and a lightning 5.4l internals is?

Thanks for any help!

No. But the Gen 1 L's ('93, '94, '95) came with a n/a 351 Windsor.

Forged internals. But it's all the other stuff that makes a swap less than appealing

It would be easier, (and depending on the year, cheaper too!) for you to buy a Gen 2 Lightning ('99 - '04) than it would be to do a swap. But if your heart is set on it, you need to contact Mike at Madenterprise. He's helped MANY a people with a swap.

Correct Stewart.......

Mike is a WAAAAAY cool guy with no issue when it comes to picking the brain....

I did this with my 97. Looking back, I think it may have been easier to just buy an L but there was this earnest kinship that I have with my 97 3-door 4x4 that I didn't want to let go of...In the long run, I EASILY spent 10k converting my truck....and I got the longblock free from a buddy at Ford.

Your biggest issue is wiring.

Between the SVT cluster and the L computer, you EASILY have 2-weeks worth of wiring full time. Simply buying the L harness won't work for you....the 97 has vac assist for ac control....the L has electronic...the harness is different.

Also, unless your 97 is a CAL emission truck, you have the 4r70w. If so, you need a new trans AND flywheel.

If you have the e40 or 4r100, then you CAN mate that trans to an L motor or continue using it with your bottom end (not recommended) with minimal mods to the harness. (97 OSS and TSS are different than Gen II L)

Also, if you don't already have the e40/4r100....you need a new trans cross member and a new rear drive shaft.....

I could go on and on....but no need unless you plan on doing it.....

I still have all of my pinouts and new harness config....and would be glad to help.....
