Yes, S for special. It may have been for a fleet or a military vehicle or a company truck.
I agree send us pictures of truck and like Bmorin said pics of obscure areas where a repaint would not have covered original paint.

Well, there ya go. You solved it. That's pretty cool.
With the firewall red and seeing the Halliburton truck pictured was red, I would assume the original color was red. Why wasn't it painted the Ford Vermillion Red? Maybe Halliburton red is different.
PS: After looking at the picture of the 48-52 Halliburton truck, it looks more red/orange .

The red that is on this looks pretty much like the vermillion red. I just hadn’t seen one where the inside was a different color unless it was custom. Definitely interesting
