I am starting the process of installing my headliner. A few questions on the rubber moulding installation.
1. Did you use weatherstripping glue to hold it in place at all? Seems like it might be helpful to keep it secure between where the clips are placed and hold it flush to the body along the outside edge?
2. it looks like the clips need to be installed by tapping them on with a hammer. It doesn't seem possible by hand with the little teeth they have on them.
3. I am assuming the moulding needs to go on the body first. I can't see installing it any other way.
4. the molding is a little wavy where the headliner slips in. I assume that settles out? It looks like stretching it a little bit on the install helps but maybe that is a bad idea.
I know this is a pretty straightforward install but I hate installing something and then finding out someone else had a better way that would have made it easier or come out better.
1. No adhesive. The clips hold it in place . I just looked at the headliner in my 54. At the corner I used some kind of adhesive since it was buckling but looks like it didn't hold. But it's been there since 1999.
2. I pushed the clips on with my hand . Use a hammer if you need to.
3. Put the clips on first, then hang the rubber then put the headliner in place.
4. If you have buckling try some adhesive to keep it against the headliner.
It's a lot easier if you have a helper to hold up one side while you're working on the other side .
Be prepared to trim the headliner. Hopefully you won't need to. Rubber in place in my 55 before I put headliner in.
Headliner in my 54. It has a couple of kinks. I could not have done it without my wife's help.
So abe, how did you find the hole to screw the headliner to the brace in the middle?
I don't remember. That was 25 years ago! I think I stuck a thin screw driver in the hole of the cardboard and found the hole in the brace and shifted the headliner until the two holes lined up.
There was another thread not too long ago about this . My original 55 headliner had 3 screw holes.
