Have a 2012 f-250 6.7 with 165k miles. Deleted it at 75k and ran perfectly. Since I live in California the smog shop said no pass as their system can detect issue even though it was tuned back to stock and old dpf bolted back. So mechanic cleaned out def tank and lines, def sending unit, replaced egr valve, egr housing egr cooler and replaced computer. It still has P0402 code (excess egr flow) and he said he has run out of ideas to fix, any suggestions? He’s had it for 6 months. Map sensor is clean, air filter new, truck runs fine. Clear code and cel light and code comes back within 50 miles. Any suggestions? At wits end
When you deleted it, did you pull off the egr or just unplug it. If you just unplugged it and ran it deleted like that, plugging it in will not work. Replace the whole egr valve with a new Motorcraft.
Thanks Dustin. Yes installed new motorcraft egr valve, housing and cooler, actually tried 2 different egr valves to make sure
Hi,
I would check CAC (cold side tube, no leaks cracks), next, the Exhaust Back Pressure (EBP) sensor. Also, that there are no leaks/blockages in the Air Filter / housing or the sensor.
p0402 is based on changes in MAF data...as more egr flow occurs...less MAF should be happening...assuming your CCV is stock.
so when I had the code I replaced the MAF sensor and MAP and still had the code. replaced the IAT...still had the code. replaced the EBP sensor...code gone. dont know if it was a coincidence....maybe the system had to do a relearn after MAF and MAP replacement. I do know that clearning a p0402 with a scan tool does not work...its a perm code and only clears after the PCM verifies the condition is fixed.
