As I understand it .... it comes down to a distributor gear is simply easier and cheaper to check and replace if need be than a cam gear that is a machined chunk of the cam itself. The aim is to keep the distributor gear as the sacrificial half, so bronze or cast is OK on any cam, but a steel distributor gear goes only on a steel cam. Is just how I grew to understand it.
Never seen a cast roller cam. in fact, you do not have to run a special gear on one according to the people who make the cam. the debate really is we going to anyway. I am just because I drank the Kool aid I guess.
Welp, I think I’m gonna put the steel distributor gear in it and hope the engine serves a long life and doesn’t start eating cam or distributor gears. As I said Ive been paranoid about the whole situation, thank you all for the helpful information.
