From my perspective, electronic ignition is the way to go. You can have a stock looking distributor with a Pertronix that doesn’t need adjustment or a separate module. In the unlikely event that it takes a crap, or an emp, you can carry points with you.
Unless it is the Pertronix coil that takes a crap on you like one of mine did leaving me stranded in my Cougar. So now I carry a spare coil from car to car when out in them.
You need something like this. Proform Parts 440-424 Proform Mopar Licensed Ignition Boxes | Summit Racing
I'm 99.5% that the Mopar 4 pin boxes work with 6 or 8 cyl engines. If you decide to use one call Summit and verify it works with both 6 and 8 cyl engines. You will need a coil for electronic ignition. The resistor wire that is in your truck now should be usable the way it is. They usually recommend a 1-ohm resistor but the 1.2-ohm in the truck may be close enough. if you decide to use the Mopar I can give you some more info.
Funny I had to change out my Mopar ignition in my 73 Dodge for an HEI that I made.
