What I did was just replace the muffler with a straight pipe going to the back. I'm very happy with the sound and it's not at all overly loud. Cutting it off at the cats might be too loud for some, and I had it that way for a little while, it still isn't overly loud either, except the sound can echo off the pavement back to the cab. But I went ahead and just added the straight pipe where the muffler is running all the way to the tailpipe and it is much quieter and still sounds very throaty to me.
well im heading outside this afternoon and im gonna cut my muffler off. ill post later to let y'all know if i like it or not. if i dont like it ill be headin to the muffler shop to get my glasspacks put on.
My pickup has a 302 and I have a Y-pipe behind the cat. No muffler. I have also gutted the rear cat. This is not as loud as i would like. I think that mine would sound better with the flaired out tips that are about a foot long. There is really no reason to put a glasspack behind the cats because it will more than likely be too quiet.
i got out there and by the time i crawled under my truck and realized how much a pain it was gonna be to unhook all the hangers, and i didnt trust the cutoff saw near the gas tank and on top of that it was freezing. i decided not to do it. ill try again on a warmer day. for now, i think im gonna head into town and get some estimates for getting my glasspacks done.
