X-pipe or H-pipe and Glass packs or turbo mufflers?
What is the performence differences between the X and H pipes and which one would you recommend on a 3.0 V6? Also what would you recommend for sounds at different RPM's glass packs or turbo mufflers?

on a V6 go with the turbo muffer I had one on my ranger and it sounded good, alot better than the glasspack that was on it. You only need to worry about an H-pipe or X-pipe if you are doing true dual exhaust.
ive got tru duals and not x or h pipe...the guy who did it said that i didnt need it...something b/c of backpressure i think .....help me out on this plz.... got a 5.0 f-150
if you have true duals and h-pipe or x-pipe will help a little. If your truck is fuel injected when the crossover is placed before the oxygen sensor it will help get a better reading for the sensor. They help balance the pressure between both sides, and are suposed to help on low end power. I have always had an H-pipe on my truck since the duals so I don't know how much it will help though.
X pipe will give you the best performance, it will also quiet down your exaust 7-9 decibles. Instead of ballancing the gasses like an H pipe, it intersects forcing them to colide giving a scavenging effect. H-pipe only helps if u have uneven gas flow.
will it sound better with an X- or H- pipe? mine is fuel injected i dont know if i could put in a x pipe b/c the exhaust pipes are sooo close together...jus an idea
if you search you will find this has come up before. I have seen and heard plenty of info on it and there is only a small gain in power 5-10hp.
it mainly helps balance the system. say you have flowmasters and it just doesent have that mustang sound. put in the H or X pipe to get the sound right. all the other reasons are going to depend on the specific vehicle apllications as for engine size, sensors locations, or pipe size.
I just put a pipe where my muffler was on a 5.8. Since I had cats on it I figured that was enough muffler. It isn't that loud at all and has a nice throaty sound.
mine is cut off behind my cat right now on a fuel injected 5.8. Ya it sounds pretty nice, in fact it might sound REALLY good if my engine hadnt blown its gaskets and covered the plugs in oil.
A 60° V-6 doesn't have the unbalanced exhaust pulses of a V-8 so it really doesn't need either. On the 5.0 mustangtests i've seen, the x makes a little more peak HP, the H a little more mid-range torque; no huge difference either way.

i dont mean to get off topic, but i had to ask.
are you happy with no muffler on your truck?, im assuming its the 351 since you say 5.8. i have a 351w and im thinking about cutting my muffler off and leaving just the cat and im also looking for the crackly aggressive sound, but not overly loud.
it sounds crappy i did not have a 5.8 but i had 2 cats in one pipe and no muffler. it was a 5.0. just get a 18 inch or a 24 inch glasspack and it will sever you well. not too loud but a good rapping sound. but it would be better if you at least cut one cat off though
my other option was to go with an 18"glasspack into a Y pipe with dual outlets, but if i can go with no muffler and have it sound the way i want for free then ill do it.
