I cannot figure out where the lower shock stud mounts. I am sure it is super obvious and I am just missing it. Is there a bracket that bolts to the lower spring mount bolts I am missing?
I feel like I am probably wasting peoples time but can anyone clue the clueless in?
I must have them around. There is no way I tossed them the big question is where I put them and I think it is only one of 3 places. I cleaned and painted every part unless I missed this one. It is not on my cleaned and painted shelf so it is mystery for now. But now I know what I am looking for! This was super helpful. Thanks to all!!
Those are actually part of the disc brake conversion assembly and hold the caliper bracket to mounting frame. They just happen to be laying in the shot since I am working on the whole front end.
However, you should be able to get those in the bolt section in your local hardware store if it is a big one. They will be in the grade 8 section. I can get them here in MA in that section. Your local hometown auto parts store, not a chain, may have them. Mine does in a large fastener section.
If all of those options are no good Fastenal will have them. Amazon will have them too but a little harder to find in small quantities. Below is a link as an example but it may not be the right size. I just picked something representative.
Thanks, but the lower front shock bolts are not a standard bolt, they are shouldered. In a separate post, I asked the following:
What bolts are being used for the lower shock connection to the front U-bolt axle bracket (see photo). The bolt requires a 1/2" diameter x 1 3/4" long (minimum) section to fit through the axle bracket and leave enough bolt for the washer and nut. The portion for the shock absorber is a 3/8" diameter x 2 1/2" long extension beyond the bracket. The remaining 6 connections for shocks are through much thinner material and I can use Dorman 31001 Universal Shock Bolt Kits for them. These are the only two connections that are different.
In that previous post folks recommended trying with off-road, trailer or RV suppliers for the bolts, but I haven't pursued that recommendation yet. This relates somewhat to your original question about the shock connection point. Hope you can find your brackets. Lower front shock bracket.
I see. I think you mean the shock mounting stud. In the schematic it is grayed out.
I am pretty sure Chuck at Chuck's Trucks can get you the correct stud. I have 2 I got mine through Midfifty But the one in the link from Speedway may work.
And the shoulder bolt. Awesome!
Now don't set them down anywhere. They will move themselves to a new hiding place.
They are right next to the brackets under the truck and are not to be moved! They must be the next priority so they are permanently in their home.
the shocks can't be installed yet as the truck is jacked up on the front frame not the suspension so it is too extended for the shocks to reach. They will probably be the last thing I install, the engine and transmission need to get in place first.
