Tablet mount for SD A-pillar
Could not find much for mounting options on a 2003 Super Duty other than a suction cup window mount, which I do not like. I did not want to just clamp one on the A-pillar handle either and really did not want to alter the A-pillar.
Searched around with some measurements to find a Ram base mount that allowed the bolt holes from the A-pillar mount to line up.
The first view without anything:
The location I was looking at using to mount to:
The Ram mount I found to dimensionally allow the bolts to align:
So the mount was a wee bit larger than the hole I want to put it in. So I ground down the mount itself very easily with a bench grinder:
The only alteration required to the A-pillar was to cut out the two little plastic tabs that stick out in the middle between the two mounting holes. A quick snip and they are gone. The little hump inside the hole is ok because of the V shape at the base of the Ram mount:
And then picked up a couple M6 x 30mm bolts and a couple washers (I could have searched harder for black but I didn't), and BAM!!
At first I attempted a straight Ram extension piece, but it would not allow the tablet to be where I wanted it to be. So I used one of these:

The end results for my A-pillar:
Now I just gotta play with the Torque Pro a bit to get the gauges to the size I need and which ones on what screens.
The mount is SOLID too

Is that a mirror power fold switch in front of the multi-function stalk?
Sure it would be a pain to deal with, maybe, but it would be fixed through my insurance.
It is a little bigger, but I am glad I used my 7" Kindle Fire. Not really in the way.
Here is a pic of my setup, but I used a suction cup one that works really well.
It also helps set the tablet further towards the window instead of the driver.
Chris- That setup looks good. I like it.

I wanted to use something other than the suction cup because we have sun here all the time and my windshield catches it a majority of the day. The plastic of the suction cup will get damaged here very quickly. Plus, with where I have it located I can still use my sunscreen to keep those rays from the inside.
The switch is for my LED lights I put in the back so when I go hooking up the trailer at night or disconnecting out in the desert when it is dark I am able to flip the switch to see. Or I can use to aid in backing too! The empty hole is for my future 52" curved LED light bar over the windshield to supplement my 20" where the fogs used to be. Fogs were gone when I got the truck because the guy had previously installed a front hitch, but he kept that and did not have the fogs anymore.
Thanks again guys. Wanted to show another option for mounting if anyone wanted a more semi-permanent option for their phone or tablet. I can easily unbolt it and pop that little cover right back on the A-pillar and no one would be able to tell it was ever there.

Funny you mention that, because when I put my setup in, I was wondering what the sun will do.
Here is Eastern Washington we get pretty hot in the summer.
