Yes it does work if they know what they are doing. There are a few YouTube videos on it. One is a Super Duty and they just take the hood off to a support device under special lights to work on it. Other area they access through existing holes and by removing panels.

Before getting my truck I talked to my son’s father in law who does PDR for a living and is very good at it. He said it is more complex to do than steel but the talented guys can do it. He also said it’s a lot more labor intensive and will overcome the cost of new panels if the damage is bad.
I also have a guy from work that twice now was able to find replacements in his color at the boneyard

I just pulled off my hood to install an aftermarket hood.
the hood is almost perfect.

its yours if you can figure out a way to get it.
I cut up the hood on my prior truck when I upgraded the hood on that one so it would be good if someone can use the 2019 hod.
the hood is in nyc 10305.
free, maybe you know some one who can start the pony express.

It's all about the person doing it and his/her training. Having lived in the front-range of Colorado we received a lot of hail and we had a great dent guy. Repaired both steel and aluminum hoods we had damaged perfectly. Hail damage in AZ? Guy didn't have a clue how to repair it, it was "too much" for him to deal with. Good luck finding that right person.
