The hood on my 49 is not laying flat, it sticks up a little when shut and I have to push it down to get right. Also the hood is not centered (shifted to passenger side about 3/4"). What can I do to fix this? These are not new issues, they have been on going since since I "finished" the rebuild 5 years ago. My guess is the whole front clip needs attention??
There is some adjustment for the hood at the arms on the sides, and that adjustment is made from under the dash at the cowl. Not a real friendly place to work, but that the first place to work on. Yours does appear to be forward on the left side in your pic. Bringing the hood back closer to the cowl will pull the front over. Once you get the back edge of the hood to align even with the edge of the cowl, if you're still off there should be some side to side adjustment at the radiator support on the 2 bolts going through the frame crossmember. If you still can't get it right, you may be looking at needing to have the frame pulled square.
Hoods can be frustrating to adjust. Wayne is spot on that much of the work is with the cowl connections. While there are some differences, an article on aligning the hoods for 41-48 ford cars may be helpful.
Take your latch off first , get it to close right then make the latch fit . Very often a misaligned latch will pull a hood , door or trunk lid out of alignment .
Thanks for the advice guys, I'll try messing with hinges first and see if I can solve this alignment issue. I did give thought to the hood center problem by loosing the radiator support bolts but never gave it a shot.... I'll try that too.
