Hello
my sons truck 2022 with a 6.7 powerstroke just had a failure with the DPF Housing its leaking DEF at the injector and the dealer quoted $8000. to replace it.
Its miles are out of warranty, the dealer said the the weld broke on the DEF injector and the hole thing needs replacing.
Does anyone know if another soulution exists? He is not in good financial position right now.
Can we buy a used DPF and can it be bolted on without a dealer assistance or programming? they told him it needs programing.
Can the Bung be welded?
Not opposed to other ideas/solutions etc.
We live in Florida so no ins pections
We can definetely remove it and swap it from a Junkyard unit if it will work.
If the bong is truly cracked, that is the first I've ever heard of anything like that.
It's not a stress point, welds don't normally fail for no reason. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't another component like the line, or the pinch or the actual nozzle itself.
the only gotcha about buying a used dpf off craigslist or some other market source is some dpf's are pulled off becuase they were clogged so how would you know if it was any good, chasis cab dpf's have the scr back wards from pickup dpfs....so a chasis cab dpf wont work in a pickup, and the newest model dpfs have a 9th injector and I dont know if that will throw off an installation. not impossible but there are things to watch out for.
the re-programing or re-learn when a dpf is changed is a real task...if you replace an old dpf with a new one...there is a service proceedure in forscan for example to trigger a dpf re-learn.....but I dont think I would trigger the relearn if you are putting an old dpf inplace of an old dpf.
me personally would look for a weld solution....using mig or tig...not open flame...I would be concerned an open flame weld would screw up the def injector.

Either way, it should not be an expensive fix.
It's a COVID truck. There are a million little quality issues that are still rearing their ugly heads with the COVID trucks. Thankfully as everyone has stated this should be an easy fix for a muffler shop.
