how do you know if evaporator is leaking refrigerant? i took the blower off to try to inspect for dye that was added, but couldnt even see evaporator with an inspection camera. can you use a sniffer at the duct outlets to know? ac shop found leak at front of compressor, and wants $1700 to replace with o.e. part, but im reluctant to do that not knowing if evap. has leak also. my 2012 f250 had an evap leak, and seems like had many similar problems as this 2016 f350 gas truck. thanks for experienced advice!
you already have dye in the refrigerant correct? If the evap is leaking, the R-134 will puddle at the bottom of the casing and then drain out with condensate. Look at the passenger frame rail area, beneath the passenger floorboard. Condensate normally drains out there, if you have a freon leak, it will be there as well.

I had a similiar problem with it leaking around the compressor. I managed to find an aftermarket compressor for 500 bucks and had it installed and recharged at a local garage. Think they charged me 300 all said and done. But just for doing the compressor just itself you are looking at probably at least a thousand dollars. Unless of course you can change it out yourself. But I find that hard to do where it is mounted. Unless you have a lift. I think if you just replace the compressor and recharge it you will be k. Hope this helps.
