I have a 1990 Super Duty roll back with the 460 engine. I seldom drive it and never in the winter. But, it always starts right up in the spring, not this year. I checked the coil wire at the dist. cap end and there is a single weak spark about every revolution. I swapped a ignition module that I am quite sure is good, same result. I pulled the distributor cap and the metal trigger wheel (not sure if name is correct) and it was surface rusty. I removed it and cleaned it up. Cleaned up inside the distributor and the same weak occasional spark. I ordered a pick up coil but haven't installed it yet. I watched some videos and it looks like removing the dist. gear can be a problem. Is there a way to check that pick up coil before I dig in? Could anything else cause that issue? Thanks in advance.
Do replace the stator in your distributor just for GP's (the pickup)
Once done with that and if the problem still persists, check the processor capacitors
The gear and collar if equipped are a bit difficult, but easier with a press
I just used a brass hammer for years and years, sometimes a press will break the distributor body
Make line up marks for the gear and shaft with a file to help you get the gear and collar back on there exactly right
Most of the time, the roll pin hole is not drilled exactly on center
That means if you install the gear 180 out, the roll pin hole will NOT line up correctly
