I have a 2000 F250 and I was looking at the wiring for my truck and found my tail light sockets melted. I want to replace the sockets and connectors on the tail lights. I am having a hard time finding connectors and sockets for Year 2000. Can I use the tail light sockets and connectors from a 2004 truck for both tail light and backup lights. On the backup lights I only need 2 of the three wires. I do not want to buy if they will not work.
another option is to pull them from a wrecked truck someone is parting out. I believe mine are still doing fine, so a good used set would be dirt cheap
Backup light sockets on these are kind of funky. Rather than being a pigtail, they are just a socket. Bulb plugs in one one side, and a harness connector plugs in on the other side. Maybe it isn't funky, and I just haven't looked at enough late model vehicles.
Do you actually need the pigtail, or just the socket portion?
Anyway, RockAuto is showing both parts available. Not saying to buy from them, but the part numbers might be useful for finding them locally.
FWIW, those parts listings show the connector being the same in 2004, but not the socket. They do show a lot more vehicles that use the socket if you need to hit up a salvage yard. In fact, according to the listings I might have a parts vehicle with one. Might have to check and save them if so. I'd offer to send if you don't find what you need local, but given distance and shipping, I think you could order online and have them quicker for less.
Josht thanks for this. I I just ordered the sockets. Alot cheaper than new taillights that need the sockets as well. Have to wait a week but that is not an issue! Plus I get to return the LED light that I bought and did not need!
