I am rebuilding this 351m. I think I have had every last catastrophe you can think of happen so far. The heads were rebuilt. The engine was bored out. Everything is clean and fresh.
Last week I had the entire engine painted and ready to go and then had to pull it apart. Anyways, last night I reinstalled the head I had pulled off and had a really bad feeling this morning so I used the bore scope in the cylinders and there was flash rust on the valves and seats of cylinders 1 and 2 on both intake and exhaust valves. I sprayed that Stabil Fogger stuff in there and coated everything good and turned the engine a few times spraying it into the intake valve side as well as the exhaust port side and the spark plug hole. Everything looks good and lubed now.
This will clear itself up right? I would really rather not have to pull it AGAIN and then lap valves and all that. This has been a nightmare. I'm just trying to get this project done once and for all. It was my late grandpa's 78 Bronco and original 351m.
It should be fine. Wouldn't worry about it. Just keep going. And since it's a forever truck you're always looking for a spare motor anyway. Guys used to dump cigarette ashes into their motors because they thought it helped their valve seats. They're tough.
