Coyote timing question.

Hello all.
I’m trying to double check myself.
I recently had the heads rebuilt on my first gen Coyote and went ahead and replaced all the cam drive pieces with OEM ford parts.
I’ve watched too many YouTube videos and read through several packets of instructions.
The part I’m second guessing myself on is the crank key way being at 9:00 or 12:00 when installing the LH primary chain.

Here’s what I did and my results.
I started with all cams having the data matriQR code looking thing) facing up.
Installed the secondary chains with double blue links on intake mark and single link on exhaust mark on both banks.
I left the crank keyway at 12:00 to do both banks.

I had all blue links lined up correctly on both the crank gear and both phaser gears on both primary chains. All guides and tensioners lined up and sprung up correctly.

Turned the engine clockwise and everything spun smoothly, was tight and with no crazy noises.
Of course the blue links don’t line up anymore but sounds like thats the norm unless I were to turn the engine over a gazillion times.

So I’m just curious what difference does it make starting with the crankshaft keyway at the 12:00 position to do the LH(drivers side) as opposed to the 9:00 position?

If I had all colored links lined up before turning the engine over(by hand) and no crazy noises am I good to go??

Thanks
John

From the 2013 1st gen 5.0 shop manual.

Thanks for sharing that RL!!
I did see the keyway at the 9:00 position before they started….. it wasn’t called out though.
I got the end result with all the timing marks lined up like the last page of your manual.
So it sounds like setting both the LH and RH primary chains with the crank keyway at the 12:00 position didn’t cause any issues.

Thanks again for the help.
John
