So my hubs stopped engaging automatically but would lock in if I turned the **** to lock. They had the dreaded broken plastic tabs. I bought new hubs from the dealer- ford hubs not aftermarket. I installed them this weekend and today I turned the **** to 4x4 and it didn’t lock in. I got out and turned the **** to lock and was able to get out.
so did I install wrong? I took old hubs off, turned new hubs to lock and slid them in and bolted them down
or do I. Have a vacume leak? And if so how do I troubleshoot this?
If you did this with the truck stationary, the internal splines might not have engaged to each other (hub to axle shaft). Try the same test (shifting to 4x4) with the truck rolling a few yards.
thanks-
looks like i have/had 2 problems. sticking broken hubs- now replaced and a broken vacume line. i found the line behind the degass bottle hanging half on.
so now i guess i have to source this line.........
