Hello all, I recently purchased a 1994 F150 with the 5.0L from an estate. The truck sat for 7-8 months, slapped a battery in and it cranked right up, running great. However at first it was holding high RPM’s before shifting rough in and out of 2nd/3rd gear. It seems to be more intermittent now that I’ve ran it a few times but curious as to what could be the cause before I drag it to a transmission shop. Any insight is helpful.
First thing to do is determine what trans you have. Find the trans code on the decal on the drivers door pillar and post it up.
It's most likely the truck has one of two computer controlled automatic transmissions, the computer is programmed to increase line pressure which results in late/hard shifts when it detects a problem. The most common problems with these old trucks is wiring and sensor issues so it is entirely possible there is nothing wrong with your trans, fault codes will at least give you a hint at what might be going on.
