I know this will probably spawn a long thread... and I didn't find a thread already out there for the '23+ superduty diesels (if there is a thread already please point me to it!)
OK here goes.... I see in the manual recommends 15W-40 for 20 degrees and above and 10W-30 for 0 degrees and above. I live in an area were temps occasionally drop below 20 but most of the time above 20. 15W-40 is more readily available in my area. I am wondering if I should use that or keep with 10W-30.
What oil GRADE / VISCOSITY are you all using in your 2023+ Power Stroke Diesels.
Unless you're going to own it until it's run into the ground it isn't going to matter. The higher viscosity usually shows less wear metals over time but the difference is so small you're talking half a million, maybe even a million miles before there's a meaningful difference. Same goes with conventional vs synthetic vs boutique oils. Anything that meets WSS-M2C171-F1 will do the job. There's nothing wrong with 15w-40 in the summer.
Crap, I went ahead and ordered 5w40 for my soon to arrive 6.7 H.O.. Should I arrange to have it returned for 10w30? Im in Massachusetts where we get temps in the single digits fairly often.
I just looked it up in the 2025 Owners Manual, here's what it shows.

No need to change from a 5-40. That's what I would run as well.
Also good to note in the owner's manual that if you're like me and have quite a few short trips it's considered 'Severe Duty' usage and recommends 5w40. If your area has a lot of biodiesel, it recommends 15w40 or 5w40. For me, I just go 5w40 and call it good. Covers more of the temperature range that I'm in, driving habits, and fuel availability.
First time owning a diesel. Is oil brand important? Has anyone tried mobil delvac extreme? $71 seems a pretty good price for 16 quarts of synthetic 15w-40.
Also, if you had to choose between 15w-40 and 0w-40 for mostly short trips with the occasional long tow which would you choose?

Ok, great, thanks guys.
As recommended by others, I ordered Triax 5w40 and will be using the MotorCraft oil filter.
I like to do the first oil change @ 1,000 miles on all my new vehicles, then stick to the recommended interval.

I haven't, but if the TSC near me is ever out of Rotella 5-40 I will give it a shot. As long as it meets the standards for your vehicle it should be fine. Just remember, Diesel oil has a different detergent package than regular oils. Walmart usually has a good price on Rotella, but for the life of me I can never find it in stock.

thank you. That answered another question. It’s not just 5w-40. It should say diesel.
15w40 has a real hard time in the cold....definitely use a synthetic since they have superior cold flow. Rotella 15W40 t6 is synthetic but rotorcraft 15w40 is not.
I was recommended this oil by many people. Price is not too shabby, comparably. When you go to the website for the first time you will get a pop up to get 15% off, which dropped my 4 gallon purchase to $97.31.

great oil in the commercial world and I used it a few times….stopped becuase it wasn’t on fords approved list and I was in warranty window.
I can understand that. That said, they list it as compatible with Ford, and the rumor is that Ford just hasn't yet updated their list.
Either way, I am not worried about what oil I use, as far as warranty. What's most important is having records of the oil change being done at the recommended frequency, along with Motorcraft oil filter and fuel filters.
Having said that, I can understand your point of view.
