I have a 2000 SD Ford Diesel, Ford service advised me of several codes that would not allow a warranty repair.
Codes:
P1690, 0478, B1352, 1359, P0500, B1342
"B" codes are for something on the Body. The B1342 is a GEM failure problem, B1352 is Ign Key-In circuit failure...also GEM related and B1359 is Ign Run circuit failure...also GEM related. You might have a bad GEM due to water intrusion or something or it could be a wiring problem. The "P" codes are for something in the Powertain. The codes you have are pretty typical for a truck with an aftermarket chip in it. You might have a chip problem but you would have to remove it and restest to check.
What kind of symptom did you have that the Ford dealer was looking at?
Loss of power and black smoke would not run past 45 pulling or 60 empty. I found that the waste gate lever had come off. I dug deeper and found the waste gate was stuck, so I reconnected it and sprayed penetrating fluid on it to free it up. Truck worked fine for three days then the same symptoms, so I took it in to Ford. Dealer said they could not warranty due to codes.
What is P0500 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction - KOER Tests?
I have a remote start so that explains code B1352.
OK, as I understand it, KOER stands for K-ey O-n E-ngine R-unning.
The diagnostic test(s) for this code involve plugging in a factory tool and then taking the truck for a short drive. You use the scanner as your speedo. After that, and assuming the Vehicle Speed Sensor fails the driving test (indicating a bad sensor and not a bad speedo), there is a long set of flow charts that go something like... Test harness here. Test connector here. etc. etc. I don't see how that could have been affected by an aftermarket chip. Tires possibly, but only because the speed sensor is tied in to the ABS system...
