I Tested my Interstate MTP65HD battery it's roughly 6-7 yrs old (can't confirm exactly as I can't seem to find receipt)
It was rated for 850 CCA and it tested at:
652 CCA with 13.11 volts....
The engine was off during the test.
Is this weak in your opinion?
The battery tester printed out a receipt indicating time to replace.
Was thinking of buying motorcraft BXT 850 CCA
You need a battery. But I would look for a battery store. One of those places that sells new and rebuilt batteries. Save quite a bit of money. And they have never let me down. Off the shelf ones have. Motorcraft will be expensive.
Thanks.
How do I know if I'm sold a good battery if it's new ?
Could be on the shelf for 6 months...
Is it best to trickle charge a new battery before installation?
Hard to tell, those test results are weird. What kind of tester? 13.11 volts? Vague "industry standard" message. Cold cranking amps are still pretty high.
NAPA has a pretty good deal if you pay over $125. 20% off. I joined up just to buy a new NAPA Legend battery. The one I replaced, same brand, was ten years old and still worked great. Batteries tend to die suddenly when they get old though. That's the main reason to replace them. Age.
7 years is aged out. The places that sell only batteries and rebuild them have the freshest acid. Seem to always test well above. 850cca reads at 1150cca type thing. Interstate and forklift battery suppliers also have fresh batteries. 8 to 9 years and they still go strong.
Not sure if such battery rebuild place is around my area.
There's an interstate store but their MTP65HD is $265 CAD plus tax. I'm assuming they would have fresher batteries as opposed to the Ford dealer.

thats a premium price. But yeah. Id grab that over the Motorcraft. And never a Canadian Tire. Sucks to not have a battery place.
I have a good feeling the interstate store would be going through batteries faster than the Ford dealership...
12.6-7 is a good voltage when buying off the shelf, new?
No thanks in regards to Canadian Tire batteries.

yeah it's perfect. A good store will also load test it before selling it.
10/10 would replace at seven years of age and the low CCA. My batt is four years of age and has lower than normal CCA. I tend to do them every 3-4 years so not stranded.
So I want to find a place to give me a CCA readout as opposed to 'under'. Am I 1 CCA under or 201?

They actually still sell a battery tester with a little paper printer so you can give them a fresh test with their battery. People really like a receipt printed with their battery specs printed out. Used to be expensive to buy. Not too expensive now for the tester.
