I acquired a 49 f600 left in the woods. It is restorable but no title. Any help with ideas what it will take to get a title? Currently in Florida but it’s history is in Wisconsin
Wikipedia says that for '49 that would be an F-6; Ford didn't start using the F-600 designation until '53.
Obtaining title for an abandoned vehicle varies a great deal according to the LAHJ (Local Authority Having Jurisdiction). And it has changed over time. You'll need advice from somebody in your area, as my experience obtaining titles in Washington State won't be the same as in Florida.
If you are thinking of buying a title and operating or selling your truck under another truck's VIN, that is a very bad idea. You may not get bit, but it you do you won't like it.
If you purchase a truck with a title and marry the parts with another truck without a title, where is the issue with using the title of one of the trucks?
You have two VINs then. The most common one--and there is a mess of a thread here because of it--is a cab swap. The cab is several years removed from the frame and powertrain. This guy actually bought a truck several years older than the paperwork says. But I digress.
There will be a VIN on the frame. And usually one on the cab--a tag on the door.
If you do a cab swap and end up with two VINs, some states will inspect, check both VINs and then issue you a new VIN for the reconstructed vehicle.
If your truck is running on another title, nothing will match and you'll be registering a truck that's in the scrap yard while driving a truck that's unregistered.
