I notice no stations near me say anything about having any percentage of bio blended with the diesel. I messaged one distributor and they said they don't sell blended in my area. Always thought the bio was standard for ULSD fuels. What if any percentage do they sell in your area?
If bio is in diesel and is more than 5% or more, you now must post what the blend is.
Some stations are renewable or blended renewable with Dino, those are different placards.
By the way... Loves is almost 20% blend.
Some blend of any type does add some of the lubrication properties back in.
Not only does bio-diesel give lower MPG, but the whole industry is a cash grab. In my youth I spent many a dollar investing in biodiesel (2000s, 20teens) and every manufacturer was making almost no product but collecting huge government grants. Then they'd fold up and disappear overnight.
It's all a scam.
Yes...
Higher the boi mix, the crappier the MPG.
So in the case of Loves diesel, the truck runs a bit quieter and cost much more by the gallon, and much more in the loss of MPG..

I do not shop for diesel at Loves.
I just looked at all the routes that I use, and have habitually stopped at Loves, for the "convenience", but that was with my motorcycle and gas rigs.
I have always noted that for diesel, they are 25c/gallon more than the other majors.
In a 6.0 or a 7.3 when a customer had a fuel system problem, I'd drive down to Houston biodiesel and fill up half tank of B100. It cleaned the fuel system to squeaky clean and unless they had stiction, I changed their fuel filters after driving a day or two and their injectors were happy.
Flying J, Loves, and think one more in my area runs B20 at all their pumps. Quiets the truck down, has a higher cetane rating, but lower BTUs (energy).
I've always noticed the bio blends they sell in Oregon and Minnesota as a state mandate make a noticeable drop in MPG. Also Loves is really big on it as mentioned so I practically never buy their fuel.
What exactly you're getting out of a diesel pump in any given area will vary wildly as to be almost impossible to keep track of. Diesel engines not being like gasoline engines in that they aren't super picky about what they'll run on, they can get away with doing that. I've traveled around the country a lot hauling campers buying fuel everywhere (no slip tank), so I've for sure seen varying levels of performance from one tank to the next that people just driving around locally buying fuel from the same supplier wouldn't notice.
Some T/A locations in Oregon also sell the "R99" Cali stuff. I fuel up with it once and it didn't seem like it ran that great. You really can notice when pulling anything with a little weight and wind drag at highway speed whether the fuel is making it run "peppy" or like a dog. Driving around town unloaded in stop and go traffic, not as noticeable.
