Lifting e450 class C at one corner
Lifting e450 class C at one corner
Want to confirm the best way to lift RV for stuff like shoving a traction board under the tire.
I have e450 v10 2011 chassis class C motorhome with gcwr about 13,000.
Manual says jack points are under the axles right after suspension and steering hardware.
I have a bottle jack with adaper for the axles.
If the the wheels get dug into the ground and already low - are there alternative jack points that don't requre crawling under, especially crawling behind rear duallies which are the drive wheels? Something accessible from the side.
Also, if I do use bottle jack under the axle, do I really need to use jack stand for something like changing a tire? If I just need to shove traction board under tire and dig some I think bottle jack can hold for that long...
Right now I have no jack stands and trying to figure if I need them, space and weight are a consideration as I'm traveling full time in this RV this year.

I wouldn't take any advice except the factory manual on this. With a long frame that is loaded heavy, you take the chance of bending and breaking stuff by lifting anywhere else. The RV house body definitely is not a good place to lift.
Regarding jack stands, this is for safety but also for your proposed situation, these will help you save time and effort. For safety, remember you'll be working with the jack under several tons of RV and in sand/dirt/etc. that is so unstable that you got stuck in the first place, so you'll have to add boards under your jack so it doesn't sink and/or roll over.

I'm a bit confused by your questions.
That is a heavy RV. How big big is your jack?
If you are stuck or the wheels have sunk in the ground, a jack will do the same thing. Unless you have a really large board or something under it. At that point I'm wondering why you got there in the first place.
If you are jacking up a vehicle to change a tire your fine with a jack only but don't go under the unit. Jacks can fail and that is not good news when you are under the vehicle. That is why you use a jack stand.
