How bad is this?
I'm getting the rust removed from the underside of my 2005 Excursion Eddie Bauer 6.8 V10.
I noticed this body mount had undercoating in it.
Also another piece (see the other picture).
Beside the fact they seemed to have sprayed everything except the drive shaft, I'm not understanding why you think there's an issue with the body mount.
Is the body moving/creaking?
The undercoating seems to hide problems more than prevent them.
You could try removing the undercoating from the bushings to make sure no rust has accumulated.
There are 12 body mounts total. They are accessed from the top side under the carpet so changing them out will be time consuming. I'd rule out any issues before tackling that job.
Maybe they just need a good cleaning and inspection.
Hopefully more folks will chime in with suggestions.
Fluid Film, Woolwax, and other equivalent Lanolin based Rust Preventatives, are 100 times better than undercoatings, which just trap moisture so the metal will rust anyway.
did that to a 1965 Plymouth that I bought brand new at the dealer, back then, we thought that undercoatings were the thing to do.
