2017 F150 3.5l Lariat 56,687 miles. Last Winter I heard a scraping noise when coming to a complete stop that sounded to me like worn pads that would soon need replacing. Later in the year the noise was not noticeable so I did not order pads and rotors at that time. This past Fall the noise returned so eventually I ordered Power Stop AR85108XPR rotors and Z23 Evolution Sport pads. The rotors are side specific. The Z23 pads do not have ears and are not side specific.
When I took the old pads off they did not look overly worn. After installing the replacement brakes the scraping noise increased to a grinding sound with drag after a complete stop. The caliper slides move freely and the calipers compress easily. Because the grinding sounds like it's coming from the right front I replaced the flexible brake hose with NAPA UP 6840611. This did not correct the problem. The tires freely turn with the front end lifted and I can't reproduce any lock with it on stands. The brake drag only presents when coming to a complete stop and releases after driving a short distance away from a complete stop. The truck is driveable but the grinding and brake lock are not good.
Oh, I completely missed the bedding step. Brake performance isn't the issue here. What stymies me is the existing condition that was not improved by replacing the pads and rotors. There never was any throb at highway speed, no pulling or squeal. Just the metal on metal grinding sound we hear that tells us it's time for new brakes. And only audible when rolling to a full stop, followed by a brief lockup that I can't recreate on the lift
There's obvious brake drag going on. I'm thinking maybe my mistake is that I've convinced myself this is a right front wheel issue. Anybody ever been fooled by a rear brake problem noise that sounds like it's coming from the front of the truck?
Just an FYI: On my girlfriend's truck, after we installed Powerstop Z36 rotors and pads, there was a slight metal grinding noise going down my driveway, and after bedding the sound is gone.

I know. I read your post before I posted here and decided to drive the truck around to see if there's similar improvement.
The problem is that I replaced the pads and rotors to correct a grinding condition and it has not. I also have front brake lock at a full stop. The rear wheels will spin on my snow packed driveway for a short time if I am not in 4WD. I don't think improper bedding is the cause.
I'm gonna try cleaning the right front caliper piston. I'm trying to rule out the off chance there is trace contaminant preventing piston release after braking that is not great enough to keep it from being easily compressed with channel lock pliers. I cannot ignore the extreme Winter conditions vehicles are exposed to here in rural VT.
Anybody ever had success cleaning calipers without rebuilding one?
I’m a few days late for this but did you check the back brakes, on these trucks the back wears out faster than the front
We have nearly 80k miles on the our 18 model and the fronts are in good condition, had to replace the rears at just over 50k miles with only about 3 mm of pad left
Last week local weather shifted from single digit temps to mid forties. I finally was able to look at the rear brakes. The right rear caliper was seized and the inboard pad was gone. Metal on metal. I am waiting on a FedEx delivery of calipers, rotors and pads as I write this.
It's embarrassing to admit I was fooled into believing the problem HAD to be with the front brakes. I guess after 45+ years of shadetree wrenching I was overdue a rookie screwup.
Problem found and fixed. Gonna keep an eye on that right rear wheel just to make sure there's not a gremlin left in the system that seized the caliper.
Thanks to everyone that posted here.
