The PimpXShift from Stinger performance is a MegaSquirt ECU with trans controller made to plug into your factory wiring.
I have a manual transmission, so I'm using just the base model PimpX (with no trans controller). So, obviously, I can't really speak to the trans controller side of things... but it would give you a tuneable ECU and trans controller, which seems to be what you need.
It should also allow you to tune to support whatever cam, injectors, heads, etc.
Buddy of mine put 90,000 dollars into a 69 Corvette he bought new and has a Sniper on it
He keeps calling me saying it runs like chit / puke
Not saying my heart pumps **** for him because he's my buddy, but yeah, I'm in no hurry to help him because I'd never hear the end of it
Exactly! And that's why I stopped doing "side jobs" for extra cash years ago, as frequently irregardless of what is agreed upon beforehand, once you touch something, you "own it".
If I wanted to save my money. I'd get an AVS2 800 CFM. And a low pressure fuel pump. And use just a stand alone trans controller. Add an MSD for a rev limiter and step control. And call it good. Carb and a tuned shift should be a fine combo.
Could I use the factory intake with the stock computer until I can afford something better?
Well.. that is the OBD2 MAF setup so you might try a scaled MAF meter and injector combo, these were common back in the day and there were combos for the common injector sizes.
Your truck is already Mass Air, so that's a plus for you! My one buddy with a '95 F250 4x4 5.8L/E4OD converted his SD truck to Mass air using factory components (FWF wiring, ECM, sensors, etc) from a Bronco. Still, some re-pinning of some connectors was necessary (I think for the E4OD). It runs MUCH better than the old SD - easier/quicker starts (probably less than two revolutions of the crank), and it gets much better gas mileage.
He also built another complete 393W, utilizing the same 22cc hyper dish pistons that I used for the carbed 393W in my '89 Crown Vic to achieve around a 9.3:1 compression ratio that is still 87 octane friendly. His is built on a '94-up roller block, so he used one of the FMS 'alphabet' cams - not sure which one, FMS Z-304 64cc aluminum heads, a factory Lightning lower intake and tubular upper, BBK throttle body, 30# injectors, shorty headers. All told, this should be well over 380hp/450tq.
