Hey guys just put a new np435 in my truck and i went to put it in neutral and i put it in neutral with the shifter and it was still in gear i pulled the cover off and tried messing with it and no matter what i did it was stuck in gear. when i have the shifter in it’ll barely go into 4th but wont go into 3rd at all. this is the gears and all of that the first gear gear moves nice into 2nd and that 4th and 3rd gear will barely move
When you pulled the top cover / shifter off was the transmission in neutral?
You can force the cover off but there is no way to put it back on if not in neutral.
The shifting collars have 3 positions other than reverse.
The 2 main ones need to be in the middle, not forward or back but middle. To test you could start the motor and see if it will move when you let the clutch out.
I dont know where reverse needs to be as I have always took the plate off in neutral.
Also make sure the shifter is in neutral should be able to look at it and make sure the notches are all in a row.
The plate should just drop on and a few bolts to hold it for testing to make sure all is good.
Now it looks like ai see a little rust on 1 of the gears?
Was this sitting for a bit to get rust on the gears.

And if you haven’t already, please take that hanging piece of gasket off before it breaks off and falls in the transmission.
Probably wouldn’t hurt a 435, but why take the chance.
