Front sending unit
Question, does anyone know if the front sending unit can be replaced without dropping the tank? From memory, the unit sits at an angle. I was hoping that it would clear while pulling the unit out of the tank. I have a standard long bed. And I'm not interested in pulling the bed off.
Thanks.
If you have no lift or jack adapter to keep tank and skid plate level, a trick is to a pair use tie-down straps, one at front and one at rear. Securely connect one end of strap to frame (hook or cam loop, depending on which style of strap you use). Loop under tank or skid plate. Wrap other end around frame or driveshaft 3 or 4 times, and pull tight. You may have to work the wraps around to get them tight. When weight comes on the wraps, friction from the wraps holds them tight. Once bolts are loose, gently jiggle the loose end of the wrap, and it will slowly drop the tank or skid plate. You'll have to lower alternate straps a bit a time, and rotate the plate / tank in the cradle of the strap as it lowers. Raising is the reverse... but you have push the plate/tank up a bit then rotate and tighten the wraps. Tedious, but it lets you do the work without lift, jack, or a helper.
I don't see how you can get the sending unit out without dropping tank (easier, in my opinion) or removing bed. Sender goes straight down into tank from top, so you need enough clearance for the full length of the sender. I'm skeptical that you can leave fill and fuel lines and electrical connector attached then partially drop and rotate tank to get enough clearance. I just put tank all the way on the ground and slid it out from under the truck.
