Hey everyone,
I have a 99 F-250 powerstroke with about 75,000 miles on it. Every now and then when the passenger side doors are opened and then closed the "Door Ajar" light goes on along with the overhead light and the little light on the door. They all like to stay on until it is convenient for them to go off. I also have a problem with the electric locks not wanting to lock or unlock when you hit the electric lock button. Any ideas????

First, this being your first post, welcome to FTE!
I would start with a good shot of WD-40 in the Door latch itself. The switch for the dome light\door ajar light is in the latch. The latches are notorious for sticking but WD-40 usually does the trick.
That should take care of the Dome light and Door ajar light. I am not sure what to tell you regarding the locks.
I agree on the door latch lube. On my 1990 F-250, I remember the door lock actuators sometimes would bind a little bit. I would also shoot a little WD-40 into the shaft and this would free them up a bit. Although this usually meant they were not going to last much longer because the dust boot was torn and grime got into them. I would try this first.
On the power lock issue, there are two likely problem points. Either the swith module is bad or the wiring. These types of problems are common on all makes because the wiring flexes each time you open the door. Manufacturers (Chrysler in particular) don't use wire with small enough strands to handle the constant flexing.
You can pull the switch module and meter out the different buttons to see if they work. If they do, try running the locks with the door open different amounts. If it works sometimes and doesn't other times, you have a wire break in the harness going into the door.
When I've had this problem I look into the manual and find which color wire goes to the item that isn't working. Then I get into the harness in the door jamb and pull on that wire. The insulation will break at the point where the wire is broken. You can splice in a piece and wrap it good. Or you can replace the whole harness.
I work at a Ford dealership and your best bet is just to replace the door switch itself, it is a constant problem with ford trucks especially the super duty they are about $9.00 a piece and only reqire removing the door panel. WD40 will not fix the problem it just makes it worse in the long run because it makes more dirt stick to it and jam up even worse. If you must try anything use electrical contact cleaner because it evaportes and does not make more dirt stick to it.
Been there a couple times. The wd-40 trick is the way to go. Hose it down pretty good when squirting into the latch area so it washes out any dirt or gum. Use an old rag to wipe up excess oil runoff. Good luck. Jake.
I will agree with Slow93 on this problem with the WD-40. It works for the time being but I guess the "oil" in it attracts dirt. I use the electrical cleaner on mine every so often to keep them clean. The light will turn off when I get above 15 mph and come back on below 10.
