I've read through several posts but have not found a similar issue as my 06 is having with the auto air control. 99%f the time it seems to work fine....seems to fail on the longer trips but really not 100% then- your driving down the road and you start to feel the air volume decrease while the fan speed is still going- the air is not diverted- it is like it's blocked. Sometimes I can toggle between manual and auto and I hear the vent change and it blows out of the dash. I've never gotten in the vehicle in the morning and had a problem. I took about a 3 hour trip yesterday and fought it the whole way down and ended up shutting it off. On the way home, it worked fine the whole trip. I did replace the actuator just in case. The heat/cold blend door seems to be working fine...is there a 3rd one? I got a used control head but I have not put in yet- if there is somewhere else I should be lookin I'm all ears! Anytime it does not work, if it's turned off for a while, when you get back in it's fine- then rinse and repeat! Very odd...j
you have the TEMP MIXTURE (blend door) and a couple other doors to DIRECT AIR FLOW... To Defrost, Vents, or Floor... If something goes wrong with the actuator, the Default is to blow at the DEFROST.. and you will loose air flow to the Vents and Floor.... check the DEFROST to see if its blowing at the windshield..
I don't know what is causing your issue. So I won't even guess.
What I know is that there are 3 different actuators. A blend door actuator blends cold and hot air. A mode door actuator sends air the different vents modes; dash, floor, defrost. There's also an actuator which mixes outside air with recirculated air.
But I have no idea what could be causing the conditions you described.
The fact that it works and then does not work is the stinker. The blend door is fine, it will go from heat to cold no problem. When it's cold, the heat and defrost work fine. All the features of the system, temperature control work awesome- but it does not re divert the air, it's blocked. I would say the heat might not work if the heater core were blocked but that would only affect the heat right? I replaced the vents actuator - I also can't imagine a door position that would completely block off everything- like the door is broken somehow- but then it works most of the time!
i read and will have to find a self diagnostics you can run on the control head- and i bought a used one.
i cant seem to find a good diagram for exactly the layout and how many/where the doors are.
I could not get the diagnostic run to start- but in the eatc or whatever it's called...could not get it to run on that. I'm feeling a little stuck- maybe the new/used control will do it. Doughty it.
Description kind of sounds like the evaporator freezing over. Might need a low side pressure switch in ac system
would I be able to see that? If that was the case whould i be able to manipulate the vent controls and then it start working? What would beca test for that switch?
If you really want to do this yourself, without any technical manuals, training, or experience...... you could watch a few YouTube videos, buy some specialty tools........ Or just take it to an AC shop. There are shops that specialize in air conditioning.
Low side switch is near or on the accumulator next to the air box. Testing would require gauges to see what the low side pressure is doing. Could just unhook connector. This would stop compressor from working unless the clutch is dragging. When the air stops blowing I would think your low side lines and accumulator would be iced over as well... If that is the problem

I have a Guage from adding freon to it- compressor since replaced..so I can hook that up to the low pressure side- what kind of reading am I looking at?**
It can't be, you can only charge from the low side with compressor engaged
I know it fits only one of tge fittings- I assumed you fill from the high pressure side of the system. I put tge new control head in and it has been ok- but I guess I need to get on the highway to be sure...I don't think I fixed anything..
