Can a failing lpop cause 84% during startup? I resealed the entire hpop system about 1000 miles ago and its been running great. Today after driving about an hour i shut the truck of and went to start it and had to crank it for about 15 seconds for it to start. I noticed the oil pressure gauge on the dash was jumping up and down and once it stabilized it fired up. I drove the truck back home and switched to another truck for the day. Ipr is hitting 84% during startup when warm. At idle its 20-21.8 and under full throttle hits just under 60%. The oil pressure gauge is jumping right up like it should now. I replaced the hpop last spring because the ball had popped out of it. My truck is a late 04 so it has the early pump with the newer rails. The truck has just over 200k on it and the lpop and oil pressure regulator are original. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Yes oem cap and filter i forgot to mention that. I also took the filter out and with the drain valve pressed down it filled the housing in about 8 seconds
I would first check the base oil pressure. But I suspect a problem with the oil pressure switch if the gauge in the cluster does not react as usual.
There is nothing to suggest an LPO problem if the filter housing is filled within 8 seconds.
As soon as the starter motor cranks the engine with more than 160rpms and the IPR valve is manually closed, the pressure in the HPO system should immediately rise to 3000psi.
I also like to use my manual setup when troubleshooting, as I can bypass all electronic components. As far as I know, Mark uses a 9V battery which fulfils the same purpose.
If the pressure does not rise as shown in the video when the IPR valve is closed, I continue with conventional troubleshooting. In the video you can see my setup with a newly overhauled engine, I also use it for troubleshooting when I doubt the values displayed in the IDS software due to faulty sensors.
