I have a 1965 f100 with a 352 and 3 speed on column. I’m wanting to make it a floor shift with a taller shifter. Something like a mr gasket 3 speed universal shifter for truck or van. Any suggestions? My goal is to put a 4 speed manual in it. Will it bolt up to the existing bell housing?
Another way is to get a T45 from a Fox body or later Mustang that has lower internal gears plus overdrive. There are kits available that make the conversion real easy. These transmissions are plentiful and not hard to rebuild. The shifter stalk will be too far back if you have a bench seat so just fabricate a 2” X 3/8” X 6” steel plate to locate the shift handle forward enough to clear the seat and high enough so that the shift **** is easy the reach.
I have done this conversion so I know it will work. I am sure some of the other posters will have ideas that may work just as well. In the long run I think going the T45 route will end up being cheaper and with overdrive your gas mileage will increase. The lower internal gear set will really wake up the 352.
Modern Driveline and CJ Pony parts have kits that will adapt aT45 transmission to a 352 engine. Theas transmissions are easy to find and rebuild. They have lower internal gears that will wake up your 352 plus overdrive.
You will have to fabricate a shift handle that will clear the bench seat and high enough for easy reach. Your speedometer cable should work. Plan on a new driveshaft.
So save your money on a 3 speed shifter and start hunting for the t 45. Swap meets, internet or word of mouth will get you what you need. Good. Luck
