Replacing backup camera wire 21 F250 w 360

Hello All,

I have an issue with my 2021 F250 that has the 360 cameras. The tailgate camera plug on the truck side got corroded and even with trying to clean it I haven’t had any luck. It is the Fakra connector right under the truck bed by the spare tire.

I have not been able to find any diagrams of this wire nor any answers around replacing just the connector.

Anyone have any diagrams or insight into replacing the corroded connector? TIA!

Well, first you'll need to locate a FAKRA Type F (brown) female connector to use as the replacement. You have to use the brown ones, any other color will not "fit" correctly with the (I think) male brown FAKRA Type F connector on your tailgate. Regardless, whatever color connector that is on your tailgate, you need to get the same color for under your truck. Mine are "nut brown".

Amazon Amazon

Then you'll need to cut the coax and strip each of the coax layers to the correct dimensions with a blade (if you don't have a $2000 automatic coax wire stripper with the dimensions already programmed in).

Then you'll need a coax crimper that has the ability to crimp RG174 coax cable AND the tiny female pin onto the inner conductor.

You can watch someone do all of that here:

Yeah that seems like it’s out of the question then haha

Next option would be replacing the entire wire, I’ve had a hard time finding a part number/diagram for that wire though. Looks like it’ll be a pain to replace but can’t think of any other way to fix it.

Did anything come of this? I also have a corroded connection at the fakra connector behind the rear bumper. Is it possibe to replace both coaxial lines?

I have not been able to replace this connector. The problem is that the ford coax is not RG174 and I haven’t been able to correctly identify it so that I can source the correct metal part of the connector. The FAKRA brown plastic shell has a part number on it and can be found at Digikey or Mouser, but to get the right metal connector that is inside of the shell you need to know the specs for the coax. You can buy a complete new Ford cable with the connectors (HC3Z-14D202-M) but I’m not sure how to access the head connection at the dashboard and haven’t found any explicit instructions on how to do this

For now, I was able to tear apart and rehabilitate my original connector. It no longer has the brown shell but it’s working. Protecting it with heatshrink and securing it to the truck frame with gorilla tape.
