Starting to think about an upgrade, but torn. I have 1997 F-250 SC, SB, 7.3 ZF5 4x4. 126k miles. Lots of new parts and upgrades. But...has some poorly repaired damage on passenger side super cab and needs a passenger door to be really nice. No rust.
I am thinking I could even trade for a 2011-2016 6.7 Super Duty. Maybe more miles, but 15+ year upgrade.
Thoughts? Keep the OBS and keep upgrading it? Or move on?
I dunno, probably don't need a different truck, onlyndrive it a couple thousand miles a year.
Commuting in the snow in mine right now, I'm not in love with it.
It gets so little use that dumb things (the clip on the end of the clutch main cylinder was the latest)
are making it unreliable. And it's uncomfortable. And has an exhaust leak. And a rain leak in the cab.
And it smells like mold. And the seat's dead.
So if you're not into maintaining an old truck, I can totally see the attraction of something that
you just start up and drive. I need to actually start working on mine again if I expect it to be reliable...
The newer truck will be much nicer, but, there's a lot more risk involved in 6.7 ownership vs 7.3. If you only drive a couple thousand miles a year, you'd be nuts (I'm saying that endearingly) to trade for a common rail with emissions that is going to have an injector fail open and cost you all sorts of money and time in the form of an engine replacement....for something you don't use often.
Fix what you have is what I'd do. What specifically do you not like about it other than the cosmetic repairs?
I think the only thing I dont like right now is the cosmetic damage. I know body work well (see the last pages my '67 thread here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ebuild-26.html) but really don't want to do that on a daily. Will take it in for that.
So many upgrades. KC300x turbo with non-EBPV pedestal, Hydra, Dieselsite Adrenaline, big stereo with sub, rewrapped steering wheel with Dallas,
New lift pump, new alternator, new vacuum pump, new starter, new battery cables, brakes redone, Bilstien shocks, new ball joints, new ebrake cables, CPP door fix kit, new Bronco Graveyard running board brackets, new tonneau cover, really nice 10" drop bumper, and the list goes on.
I am going to put new injectors and a tune in it to get into 300s at the wheel. I dont need a SD or the common rail issues, for sure...

There...put that SD thought to sleep
As someone who works on and has always owned a diesel....I will not own a common rail. That might be different if I needed one for the gvw they offer.....but common rails never get replaced cuz they wore out, they get replaced because of failed injectors.
A zf6 would change the driving experience enough for you that i think that should be something you do. Tunnel mods are required for a zf6 to fit, but it's not hard and the extra acceleration gear will make you happier with the truck.
I am glad you came to your senses. The 6.7 is a robust engine, but it needs to be worked to be reliable and it is $$$ to fix when it does break. Keep the 7.3 and rock on.
I wouldn’t spend the $$ for a zf6. The end result doesn’t justify the gains for me. But, that’s me and not everyone else. A fresh set of injectors will support the mods you have already completed. Do yourself a favor and buy them from Rosewood.

Any additional thoughts as to my Rosewood? I was thinking CNC...love to hear your thoughts.
CNC is not a bad choice, but Jim is the OG for injectors. His quality and customer service is really good. I am sure someone out there has a negative thought about Jim, but I haven’t seen anyone say it. I would call and talk to each one then get a feel for which one you would like to do business with
I drive a 16 SD off and on at work. [ Its a 6.2 gasser] I will say I do like the truck. It rides better then the old OBS 3/4-1 tons, has a lot of usefull features, but still has a old truck feel to it that most newer trucks lack. I will say they are NOT fun to work on!!! Seems that everything we need to do on it is WAY harder then it needs to be. If it was me, and I liked the old truck, and as you say its rust free, I would really think I would be doing the body work, and keep enjoying it for more years.
